In their second year, LOCAL CHEERLEADING EVENT COMPANY, All Attitude Athletics (Triple A), was proud to award $4,000 in scholarship money to some of the state's top cheerleaders at their annual Hawaii-Style Cheerleading Camp held July 13-16 at Moanalua High School.
Participants of the camp were able to tryout for Triple A’s TEAM ELITE in which standing and running tumbling, jumps, cheer, dance and co-ed stunting for male participants were judged. Only 30 athletes, 10% of the camp, were chosen and recognized during the awards ceremony held on Monday. The top six Team Elite winners received scholarship money. The top fifth & sixth received $250 in scholarship money (Julie Nagata, Moanalua; Coery Monibog, Baldwin). The top fourth & third received $500 (Taryn Loo, Punahou; Jamie Akamine, Castle), and the top two senior athletes received $1,000 each n scholarship money (Christopher Acacio, Farrington; Niki Fernandez, Baldwin). Triple A also recognized one of their staff as an outstanding athlete. Triple A staff member, Anela Winn, was awarded with $500 in scholarship money and will be attending HPU in the fall.
Triple A is proud to be able to reward these accomplished and skilled young local athletes. CEO, Vanessa Napoleon, is a graduate and former cheerleader for the Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii. Although Napoleon went on to coach cheerleading at the Arizona State University as well as internationally, she always remembered her roots and created Triple A with other long-time cheer mate, former Moanalua High School cheerleader, University of Hawaii cheerleader, and former University of Hawaii cheer coach, Kellie Mikami.
“The purpose of Triple A is not only to give back to Hawaii and perpetuate the Hawaii-Style that has been passed on and developed by decades of generations,” explains Napoleon, “but what really makes me proud is taking the best instructors from the mainland – instructors who have been all over the nation and all over the world teaching cheerleading – and sharing with them the unique aloha spirit and style found only in the islands. The Hawaii youth are some of the hardest working, respectful and most talented in the world, which is why more than half of my staff is local. Our motto is ‘SPIRIT - HEART - PRIDE’ because that is Hawaii-Style Cheerleading that we know, we love, and we share.”
