About the Hawaii High School Hall of Honor

The Hawaii High School Hall of Honor (HOH) was established in 1982 by Nissan Motor Corp. in Hawaii, Ltd., to recognize athletic excellence and
accomplishments of Hawaii’s high school athletes.

Twelve student athletes are selected annually for induction into the Hall of Honor by an independent selection committee. Along with the induction into the Hall of Honor, each student athlete receives a $2,000 college scholarship, which can be used to offset college education expenses—tuition, books, and room and board expenses.

In Fall 2004, Nissan Hawaii turned the prestigious high school scholarship program over to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Foundation to maintain the 22-year-old tradition.

Eligibility

Students in the State of Hawaii who are participating in any sport(s) approved by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, and who are completing their senior year of high school, are eligible for consideration.

Qualities Considered

Athletic achievement is given primary consideration by the selection committee. Other factors considered include: contributions to the team;
versatility in sports; sportsmanship and dedication; character and behavior on and off the playing field; standards as a student; role in school activities
outside sports; and involvement in the community.

Nominations

Only selection committee members may present nominations at committee meetings. However, coaches, athletic directors, other school personnel, or anyone else in a position to recognize outstanding high school athletes may submit completed nomination forms to the assigned selection committee member for consideration. (See the list of school assignments in the PDF.)

Only official HHSAA Hall of Honor nomination forms will be accepted. Supporting materials may accompany the nomination form and may include
media clippings, statements, letters of reference, or grade transcripts. Supporting material is limited to 8 one-sided 8-½” x 11” sheets. Additional material submitted will not be considered and will be discarded without discretion. Applications and materials may not be submitted via facsimile transmission or by email.

In addition to the completed nomination form and supporting material (optional), two photographs are required: a senior portrait (a head-and-shoulders shot) and an action photograph. These photographs will not be returned to the student athlete and will be used in the HOH dinner program.

Completed nomination forms must be received by the assigned selection committee member no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2007. Nominations will not be accepted after the deadline. Please see the PDF of this application for the committee member school assignments.

An awards banquet will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

Selection Committee Meetings

The selection committee meets periodically throughout the school year to review nominations. It is suggested that nominations be submitted at the
conclusion of the season for each nominee’s principal sport. Updates on athletes participating in more than one sport are encouraged. The committee will meet to make its final selections on Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, 2007. The honorees will be announced on Monday, May 21, 2007.
